I just got here from Denver.  I’m almost done with this phase;  heading to Oregon to pick up my van.  I came to Colorado years ago for the weed and have been here since.

People don’t understand that we all have backstories.  I have a college degree.  I have a family.  I have lived in a house almost all my life.

Being homeless is no place for a woman.  It’s not safe.  Carrying all this around is tiring.  I usually can’t even sleep at night because I’m too scared.  So I sleep during the day.  We see the city at night, at dawn, all the times no one else sees it.

No one can understand what it’s like until they’ve experienced it for themselves.  That’s all I can say.  No one can understand what it’s like to be homeless until they spend a night on the street.

This is my home (pointing at backpack).  Right here.  This backpack has been with me through it all.  It has everything I need.  When I get my van, it’ll really start to feel like home.
